Heath Psychology Eligibility Requirements
If you have an undergraduate degree from an accredited university, you may apply for admission to the master of science program in health psychology. The application deadline is January 15th of each year for the following fall semester. Acceptance decisions are made by February 28th of each year for the following fall semester. Applications will be accepted after January 15th for late admission. Regular admission applicants who apply by January 15th will be given first consideration; additional late applications will then be considered based on space in the program.
The psychology program requirements are:
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
- GPA of 3.2 or higher in your undergraduate major
- GRE Quantitative and Verbal Scores of 450 each, with a combined score of 1000 or higher
- GRE Advanced Psychology Test score of 500 or higher
- Three strong letters of recommendation from former faculty or work supervisors. At least one letter should be from a former faculty member if you earned your degree in the past three years.
- A well written personal statement demonstrating an understanding and dedication to the field of Health Psychology.
Taking Courses before Admission
You can enroll in individual courses to increase your knowledge in the field of health psychology. You can apply up to 12 credits (with a grade of B or higher) toward your master's in health psychology upon formal admission into the program. Please note that taking classes before you are accepted into the program does not guarantee your admission into the program.
The following materials will be required prior to course enrollment:
- Application for Graduate Studies
- Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- Résumé/Curriculum Vitae
- Completed course registration form
Prerequisites
The basic requirements for admission include 6 credit hours of psychology, including two of the following courses:
- General psychology
- Abnormal psychology
- Personality theory
- Cognitive psychology
- Research design
- Statistics
If you lack these requirements, you may be able to fulfill them through additional coursework in the MS program.
